Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar most certainly moved me when I first discovered it about 10 years ago. This beautiful music, initially played to accompany Hawaiian hulas and “mele” (songs) is becoming recognized around the world as a truly special instrumental art form. To me it has a peaceful, spiritual quality. Hawaiians might call it “mana” (spiritual power). From my very first hearing of Slack Key Guitar, I was inspired to learn the special tunings and techniques so I could arrange some old hymns in this gentle style. I traveled twice to study “at the source” at the Beamer Family Aloha Music Camp in Hawaii, where I was appointed “Buffalo’s Ambassador for Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar”.
